Competition FR2I – Engineering – Innovation – 2020
Mobile computing
Objective of the Competition
The aim of this competition is to identify and reward a student or a young professional, having demonstrated very good skills in mobile computing development. In addition to the symbolic cash reward, the winner will be integrated into the TRACER project, the objective of which is to generate relevant information for the health authorities to consolidate the strategy to fight against epidemics and endemics, considering the constraints and African settings
Evaluation criteria
Beyond the work done (report and quality of software modules) the candidate will be judged on:
- the approach adopted
- the ability to present and justify one’s choice of methods
- Interpretation of the results obtained
Required work
The following features of the application will be clearly highlighted:
- Image capture
Objective: develop a feature that will allow to capture an image
- Image transfert
Objective: develop a feature that will transfer (or receive) image captures to (from) another device using a wireless connection.
- Interpretation interface
Objective: Integrate an image classification algorithm (the algorithm will be provided) and develop an interface for displaying the results of this algorithm
- Collection of individual information and geolocation
Objective: Develop a functionality which will make it possible to enter some metadata, to collect individual data (name, sex, age, GPS coordinates, etc.) and to read barcodes, all this offline.
- Data synchronization
Objective: Develop a functionality which will allow the data collected to be synchronized with a central online server.
Content of application
- Candidate’s CV
- Codes needed
- A brief presentation of the work and results (ten slides in pdf)
Selection process
- A first selection phase will be carried out on the basis of the applications received, to identify at most 4 (four) finalists.
- A second phase of evaluation will include oral presentations of the candidates to a jury (by video conference), immediately followed by the jury’s deliberation.
Publication of results
The results will be published on radio, television and the press, at most 24 hours after the deliberation.
